I'm a Calgary-based developer and ecommerce operator. Most of my career has been spent on the same problem from two different angles: building the software that runs an ecommerce business, and actually running one.
I started in web development and online marketing consulting, then spent years managing ecommerce directly — platform decisions, advertising spend, marketplace expansion, merchandising a constantly-changing catalogue. That operational experience is what shapes how I build software now: I've felt the cost of a bad sync job or a silent data error from the business side, not just the engineering side, and I design systems to avoid that specific kind of failure.
Today I build catalogue automation, marketplace integrations, and internal tools for a Canadian industrial distributor, alongside independent contract and fractional work. I use AI tools — Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini — as a core part of how I build software, inside a workflow that keeps system design, testing, and review firmly in human hands. I write about how that actually works, rather than just claiming it.
Outside of client and employer work, I'm usually extending that same toolkit into smaller personal projects — automation, tooling, and the occasional itch-scratching utility.
How I work
- Start from the business problem, not the technology — the stack is a means, not the pitch.
- Validate at every system boundary. Most expensive failures are quiet, not loud.
- Use AI tools to move faster on implementation — never as a substitute for design or review.
- Write down what I build. If a system can't be explained plainly, it's not finished.
